It’s Twist The Throttle For Trails Time!

Temperatures are dropping, precipitation is up and the dirt is perfect for moto exploration and adventure in the Lost Sierra. With prime riding season upon us, what could be better than starting this winter on a brand-new one-of-a-kind KTM 350 EXC-F dual sport?

Donate to this year’s Twist The Throttle for Trails fundraiser and you’ll get a chance to win the bike and a full prize package worth close to $20,000. Twist The Throttle is Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship’s final 5 Bikes a Foot-style campaign of 2026, and raises unrestricted dollars to help ensure SBTS’s Pro Trail Crew can keep hundreds of miles of multi-use, moto-legal singletrack within our trail footprint well maintained and open year-round.

Each donation of at least $5 made between Tuesday, November 3, and Tuesday, November 24, gives you a chance to win the grand prize 2026 KTM 350 EXC-F, a versatile, street-legal dual sport that strikes a balance between the agility of a 250 and the power of a 450, and a bike that you can ride on and off-road. And this one is unlike any other you’ll see out there. It’s finished with a custom KTM Factory graphics and plastics kit that our partners at Motorcycle Performance Center in Roseville, California, worked with the brand to select specifically for this build, along with KTM Factory Dual Sport seat and skid plate, KTM Factory Front and Rear disc guards and KTM Factory Akrapovic Titanium Exhaust. To sweeten the build, MPC swapped the stock bars with FAAST Company Flexx handlebars and handguards and Dual Sport foot pegs, and traded the stock tank for the oversized Acerbis Quick Fill 3.8-gallon fuel tank so you can go on longer adventures without gas-range anxiety.

Along with the bike, the winner will take home a full Leatt Protectives riding kit, including the 4.5 Enduro Pant and Jersey, Moto 3.5 Lite Gloves, 7.5 Helmet with 4.5 Goggles, 4.5 Enduro Boots and a 3.5 Pro Chest Protector, a Peak Design Travel 30L backpack, Moto Bar Mount, Wash Bag and Gnar Phone Case and a selection of Mosko rackless bags made for off-road motos that don’t have side panniers. Bags include the Reckless 40L, the Stinger 22L Tailbag, the Stinger 8L Tailbag, the Aux Pox 4L, the Nomini tank bag and the Gnat handlebar bag.

In other words, this prize package is loaded! And just a single donation could put you in the running to win it. In addition to donations made through this website during the three-week fundraising window, regular monthly donations from recurring donors will automatically go toward this campaign and give those donors a chance to win as well. No purchase is required to enter, and write-in entries are accepted (see full rules below). The campaign is open to U.S. residents only, and the winner must be able to pick up the bike in person at Motorcycle Performance Center in Roseville and transfer the title.

Explore and adventure on your public lands.

Northern California’s Lost Sierra covers four national forests and is crisscrossed by thousands of miles of dirt roads and singletrack linking rural towns that serve as ideal stopovers for multi-day motopacking trips. It’s also a rare part of the west where a significant number of the roads and trails are designated for multiple uses, including motos, and where motorized access is actually growing, not shrinking.

Where your money goes.

Connected Communities map

SBTS is in the midst of implementing Connected Communities, a long-term vision to connect 15 of these rural communities with multi-use singletrack, but many are already connected via doubletrack and Forest Service roads now, as laid out in our existing 800-mile Connected Communities route. Whether it’s a destination overnighter to Downieville, Taylorsville, Quincy or Loyalton, with a credit card in your pocket and everything you need on your back and bike, or a multi-day motopacking trip camping in the backcountry with resupply stops in towns along the way, this kitted-out KTM 350 EXC-F is the ideal adventure rig.

And while the existing opportunities for adventure are aplenty—including Backcountry Discovery Routes’ NorCal Route, which passes through the Lost Sierra—the route possibilities are only getting bigger and better: The SBTS Pro Trail Crew is currently working on several trail projects in the Lost Sierra that this fundraiser will directly support. That includes the in-construction Verdi Ridge project near Truckee, which is part of the larger East Zone Connectivity Project that will eventually link Truckee to Sierraville, Loyalton and Verdi and Reno, Nevada through a 51-mile network. We’ve made amazing progress on Verdi Ridge this year in partnership with the Tahoe National Forest and with Sierra Nevada Conservancy and CA-OHV funding, but will need additional dollars to complete the next 25-mile phase of that project—your dollars will help complete this vision! Work is also continuing on the Peavine Maze Connectivity and Restoration Project in partnership with Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, which will bring 20 miles of new motorized singletrack to Peavine Mountain on the California/Nevada border.

The Downieville crew also recently finished a beautiful realignment on the Big Boulder trail, building a new 1.2-mile forested singletrack trail to avoid the rutted-out mining road between Pauley Creek and the main Big Boulder trail. The Pro Trail Crew maintains the entire Downieville network, keeping some of northern California’s best moto trails logged out and brushed, and the tread is in good condition throughout the spring, summer and fall. Over in Quincy on Mt. Hough, the crew maintains the 70+-mile system, all of which is moto-legal, and recently finished refinement work on both the Acorn Grotto and Tollgate trails to enhance the features, making these top-to-bottoms runs destination-worthy.

The time to ride has never been better! Donate today to support SBTS’ work and get a chance to win the ultimate dual sport adventure set-up.
