Team Tournament Format

The AAD Open features two distinct draws tailored to player skill levels: an A Flight and a B Flight. The A Flight is reserved for competitive teams with an average NTRP level of 4.5 or higher, offering prize money of $2,000 for champions and $1,000 for finalists. The B Flight caters to players ranging from beginner up to the 4.0 NTRP level, providing an exciting environment for novice and intermediate competitors.

Across both flights, matches follow a fast-paced team format. Before each round, entered teams designate a #1 and #2 doubles pair. Both pairs compete simultaneously against the opposing team's #1 and #2 pairs in a single set using no-ad scoring (win by two games). If a set reaches 6–6, a single sudden-death point determines the set, with serve decided by a racquet spin.

A team advances automatically by winning both sets. If the pairs split the sets, the match comes down to a deciding 7-point tiebreak (win by two). For this tiebreak, each team forms a brand-new pair by combining one player from their #1 pair and one from their #2 pair.

Registration & Policies

Entries are non-refundable; however, you can transfer your entry to another team or swap players on your roster at any time before check-in. If one team member collects $500 and submits a corporate matching request to cover the $1,000 team entry fee, let us know your intention to do so. Because platform matches like Benevity require processing time, submit your match details and we will manually complete your team registration in advance. Every player must sign a liability waiver and photo release at check-in. By playing, you agree that AAD may use event photography in its materials.

Founded in May 2021, Asian American Dream (AAD) creates new pathways to career success for underserved Asian American and Pacific Islander undergraduates through mentorship, professional development, and career advancement opportunities. AAD challenges the model minority myth and addresses the critical lack of career readiness resources available to many first-generation and low-income AAPI undergraduates, empowering them to pursue their own vision of the Asian American dream — one that celebrates their heritage, lived experiences, and career aspirations.

The AAD Open is a celebration of this mission, bringing together the tennis community to support opportunity, connection, and belonging. The event began in 2023 at Chestnut Ridge Racquet Club as AAD’s inaugural tennis fundraiser and has grown into an annual tradition, moving in 2024 to the historic USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, home of the US Open. Each year, the AAD Open continues to unite players and supporters through a shared love of tennis while strengthening the community behind AAD’s mission.
