Kris Sadens' Story

When I turned 40, in 2016, I had never competed in any type of physical endurance race. Not even a 5k.

I turned 50 in June, and I'll compete in my 8th Olympic Distance Triathlon this August.

How dramatically our stories can change. How empowering to realize  we can author that change!

Typically, we don't choose our life's biggest changes. The result of the  adversity and suffering that we all must confront.

But we do get to choose how we respond. We choose our perspective.

Our lives changed forever when our son Silas had his first seizure as a baby 13 years ago. Shortly after that we received his diagnosis of a rare vascular disease called Sturge Weber Syndrome which caused blood vessels in his brain to not form properly.

It was devastating. And the road from that day is never one we'd choose to walk. But, we also count it as one of the great gifts of our life. For the perspective we have gained. For the personal growth we've experienced as a result. And, especially, for the community that has joined our cause.

We felt strongly from the day was officially diagnosed that we'd play a role in helping fund and find a cure.

I'd never have guessed triathlons, but here we are.

As improbable as it was to become a tritathlete in my mid 40's, it's almost impossible to believe how many people have joined us over the last two years.

Dozens of friends, and friends of friends, joined us last year and helped us raise over $200k.

This year, our Tri for a CURE team is back to help us push past $500k raised in total since we started out 13 years ago.

None of this was in the plan. But it's the inspiring result of embracing the adveristy life throws at you and remembering you never have to walk alone.

Your donation will go directly to fund Research and Patient support through organizations like CURE Epilepsy, Henry's Heroes and the groundbreaking work of Dr. Jeffrey Loeb whose inspired work supports both the Epilepsy and Sturge-Weber Communities.

Together, We will help fund and find a cure in Silas lifetime!

Love, Kris

PS...Unlike most platforms, GiveButter allows us to keep 100% of your donation by waiving platform fees and covering processing fees if a donor chooses not to. In exchange, they ask us to leave a tipping option on for those who can support their awesome mission. Don't feel obligated!
