This year's C4C will support SALT's World Relief Campaign: "Powering Homes, Empowering People". This campaign is in support of Project Neighbors from Valparaiso, IN.

Project Neighbors is a local nonprofit that builds and manages affordable rental housing for individuals and families in the Valparaiso area who are experiencing housing insecurity. Since its roots in 1969 as the Valparaiso Builders Association, the organization has worked to remove barriers to safe, stable housing, beginning with efforts to break Valparaiso’s racial housing barrier. Project Neighbors was formally incorporated as a nonprofit in 1989 to carry that mission forward.

The people who live in our affordable housing are the backbone of the community: teachers, university staff, librarians, healthcare workers, pastors, single parents, veterans, service industry employees, and neighbors living on fixed incomes through SSI or SSDI. They are everyday people working to build stable futures and who deserve a safe, affordable place to call home.

The 2026 campaign, “Powering Homes, Empowering People,” will raise funds for Project Neighbors’ newest development, The Crossing, a 23-unit studio apartment building located at 850 Axe Avenue. The building is designed to provide safe, efficient, and affordable homes for neighbors who are currently struggling to find stable housing in an increasingly expensive rental market. When completed in mid-2026, it will represent one of the most significant expansions of affordable housing in Project Neighbors’ history.

All campaign donations will sponsor a critical part of the building’s infrastructure: more than 15,000 feet of electrical wiring that will power every apartment in The Crossing. This investment will help keep the lights on and ensure each resident has a safe, reliable place to call home.
