Twenty years ago, if someone had told me I'd one day be leading apartment communities, mentoring professionals, writing books, and representing an organization that has helped shape my career, I probably wouldn't have believed them. At that time, I was simply trying to figure out my next step after receiving an eviction notice. Life has a way of humbling us. But it also has a way of introducing us to opportunities we never knew we needed. That difficult season led me into property management—an industry that didn't just give me a job, it gave me purpose. Along the way, I discovered leaders who believed in me, mentors who challenged me, and organizations like IREM that invested in my professional growth through education, networking, and leadership development. The truth is, I didn't get here alone. Someone opened a door for me. Someone sponsored an educational opportunity. Someone believed I was worth investing in.
Today, I have the privilege of paying that forward. That's why saying yes to the 2026 Impact Icon Challenge means so much to me. Over the next 12 weeks, I'll be sharing my journey—from one of the lowest moments of my life to becoming a District Manager, author, mentor, and leader. I'll share the victories, but I'll also share the failures, the fears, and the lessons that shaped me.
I'm also raising funds to help the IREM Foundation continue investing in future leaders, because I know firsthand what happens when someone is given an opportunity to grow. This challenge isn't just about raising money. It's about raising hope. It's about reminding someone who's in a difficult season that where you are today doesn't have to determine where you'll be tomorrow. If my story encourages one person to keep going—or if together we can help one future leader receive the education and support they need—then every step of this journey will be worth it.
