Nationally, Girls Inc. was founded in 1864 as Girls Clubs, in response to the social upheaval following the Civil War, to create safe spaces where girls and young women could be supported, educated, and empowered. In Omaha, Girls. Inc. began in 1975 in the basement of an inner-city church - rooted in community, resilience, and the belief that girls deserve opportunity, care, and possibility.

Today, we serve girls ages 5 through 18 at our two centers: the Katherine Fletcher in North Omaha and the Emma Lozier Center in South Omaha. The girls we serve are primarily Black and Brown girls from a wide range of family structures and lived experiences. Our girls come from families that reflect the full range of what family looks like today. Some are raised by two parents, some by one, and others by grandparents, extended family, or caregivers through the foster care system. Regardless of structure, every family navigates its own challenges and strengths. What matters most is that girls have consistent support, safety, and adults who believe in them - that's where Girls Inc. comes alongside them
