At the San Antonio African American Community Archive and Museum (SAAACAM), we exist to ensure that the rich, complex, and powerful history of African Americans in our region is not only preserved—but experienced, shared, and carried forward.

Every day, we open doors to history that has too often been overlooked. And we do it at no cost to the community.

Through free admission to our exhibit space, monthly film clubs, story times in the park, author talks, pop-up exhibitions, school curriculum, summer camps, and history harvests, we are creating access points for thousands of people—students, families, educators, and visitors—to connect with stories that shape identity, belonging, and possibility.

This work is grounded in three pillars:

Education

We equip learners of all ages with tools to understand the past and navigate the future. From K–12 curriculum to oral history initiatives and student internships, we are building the next generation of historians, thinkers, and leaders.

Cultural Enrichment

We create spaces where culture is celebrated, preserved, and lived. Through exhibitions, performances, storytelling, and community programming, we ensure that history is not static—but vibrant, relevant, and deeply human.

Economic Empowerment

We invest in community by creating opportunities—for artists, historians, educators, and small businesses. From paid internships to vendor markets to future job creation in our new cultural center, we are building pathways to sustainable impact.
