Official Intake Update: 2026 Marion County Paso Rescue (Happy Valley Horse Rescue Seizure)

We have a major update regarding a massive multi-agency investigation. South West Florida Horse Rescue, Inc. (SWFHR) has officially accepted six (6) new intakes following a heartbreaking seizure by the Marion County Sheriff's Department.

The Investigation & Seizure

This case has been ongoing since early November 2025. While the public was unaware, agricultural investigators were working behind the scenes at "Happy Valley Horse Rescue" in Ocala, FL. What they found was a crisis of staggering proportions:

72 Horses Total: Investigators discovered horses living in appalling conditions.
Severe Neglect: In one barn housing 22 horses, stalls were filled with 1–2 feet of manure. Many horses were emaciated, with ribs and hip bones visible from a distance.
Medical Distress: Multiple horses suffered from overgrown hooves, hindering their ability to walk. One horse tragically had to be euthanized on-site due to the severity of its condition.
Legal Action: Warrants were executed across two separate properties. The court has permanently stripped the respondents of ownership of the animals and ordered a judgment to recoup the high costs of emergency care.

Why SWFHR was Chosen

Out of the dozens of rescue groups in Florida, only a select few were asked to assist with this specialized case. Thanks to high recommendations from Rainbows Edge Equine Transition Center and surrounding Sheriff’s Departments, Investigator Justin McClure reached out to us on March 6, 2026.

We initially agreed to take four horses, but seeing the need, we have stepped up to take six (6) of the eighteen feral horses from the herd.

The Path to Healing

These horses have never known a kind hand or a clean stall. To ensure their success, we are partnering closely with our trusted trainer, Julia Anne Sutherland Henderson. Julia’s expertise in our Rescue Training Program gives us the confidence that we can "work our magic" and earn the trust of these "new kids."

For now, they are only known by their intake numbers. We invite you to welcome: #47 (Gelding, 17 YO), #49 (Mare, 12 YO), #51 (Mare, 10 YO), #68 (Mare, 7 YO), #69 (Mare, 7 YO), and #80 (Mare, 10 YO).
