Mark your calendar for the 9th Annual Sporting Clays Tournament, a premier shooting sports event and one of the biggest fundraisers of the year for Scouting in our area. Every shot fired, every raffle ticket bought, and every sponsorship given helps support the Scouts right here in our community — so come for the competition, and know you're making a real difference while you do it.

What is Sporting Clays?

Sporting clays is a fast-paced, challenging clay target game designed to simulate real field shooting conditions. The sport originated in England in the early 1900s as a way for hunters to sharpen their skills between seasons. On a sporting clays course, shooters face a variety of targets launched to mimic the flight paths of game birds in their natural environment — making every station a new challenge.

Event Format

Teams of 5 shooters each
20+ shooting stations across the sporting clays course
Plus the always-popular game trailer and five stand stations
Fun and accessible for shooters of all skill levels, from first-timers to seasoned competitors

What's Provided

Clay targets (pigeons)
12- and 20-gauge ammunition
Meals

Shotgun
Eye and ear protection

Raffle & Sponsorships

The event features a raffle with excellent prizes, so be sure to pick up your tickets on event day. We also offer individual, team, and corporate sponsorship opportunities for those looking to support Scouting at a higher level — contact the Council office for details.

Youth Participation

Youth ages 10 and up are welcome to participate, provided they are:

Accompanied by an adult, and
Have completed the New Mexico Hunter Safety Online Course
