Greetings, Friends!

As we celebrate all that we have accomplished in our first 25 years–developing over 300 plays by emerging artists, local high school students, prize-winning professionals, and everyone in between–we are proud to continue to develop new plays and to champion playwrights.

This year, in addition to the plays we will invite to our annual Playwrights Conference from the record 966 plays submitted by writers across the country, we’re expanding our work to include the next generation with the launch of a Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA) program. TYA is an avenue for reaching the next generation, inviting young people into stories created with them in mind while remaining engaging for adults, too.

Our Playwrights Conference has always sought to serve and contribute to our community, as demonstrated in our annual work with McCall-Donnelly High School. With the elimination of the middle school theatre program in McCall, we saw a clear need for accessible arts experiences for youth, and we are committed to creating theatre that resonates with young audiences and welcomes families. “I can see a direct line from my theatre education in middle school to where I am today as a professional theatre maker,” says Co-Artistic Director, Mallory Metoxen, “Involvement in theatre creates community, fosters emotional intelligence, increases confidence and collaborative skills… It’s an art form where you must work together and build skills that can apply to any career.”

Our core values at Seven Devils have always been rooted in stories that embrace, explore, and challenge the American experience. And we know too well that, to survive and thrive, the theatre must continually welcome new audiences and grow the next generation of artists; this summer, we invite the youngest of us to join.

As we move into our next 25 years, we build on our ongoing mantra to make theatre better, one play at a time, supporting stories for everyone. We need each other now more than ever–and we need the theatre. We need stories of hope in the future and the resilience of spirit.
