The Daly Mansion was purchased by the State of Montana in 1986 through the Montana Estate Tax Forgiveness Act, in partnership with a loan from the National Trust for Historic Preservation. That same year, a dedicated group of community members came together to form the Daly Mansion Preservation Trust, Inc., driven by a shared vision to save and preserve one of Montana's most significant historic landmarks for future generations.

After standing closed and boarded for more than 45 years following Margaret Daly's death in 1941, the Mansion was lovingly restored and reopened to the public in May 1987. What was once a neglected historic structure has since become a treasured destination where history, education, and community come together.

Today, through a partnership with the University of Montana, the State of Montana leases the Mansion and approximately 46 acres of surrounding grounds to the Daly Mansion Preservation Trust, Inc. The Trust is responsible for the full financial operation of the property, including staffing, maintenance, preservation projects, educational programming, and daily operations.

The Daly Mansion serves as far more than a museum. It is a gathering place for our community, a venue for cultural and educational programs, a destination for school groups and visitors from around the world, and a living reminder of the people and events that helped shape Montana's history. Through tours, events, exhibits, and community partnerships, the Mansion provides opportunities for learning, connection, and stewardship of our shared heritage.

The Daly Mansion Preservation Trust receives no regular operational funding from either the State of Montana or the Federal Government. The continued care and preservation of this historic property are made possible through tours, events, memberships, sponsorships, grants, donations, and the dedication of volunteers who believe in preserving this remarkable place for generations to come.
