I’m supporting YWCA Clark County as a Community Champion this summer. As a bit of a true crime aficionado I know the undeniable link between domestic violence and homicide. If women aren’t safe, none of us are. YWCA Clark County offers the only emergency domestic violence shelter in Clark County and is the only domestic violence shelter in SW Washington to allow companion animals onsite with survivors.
71% of survivors delay leaving their abusers out of concern for the safety of their pets
89% of survivors say abusers have threated their lives and the life of their pet
25% of survivors often return to abusive situations because they fear for the lives of their pets.
This issue intersects directly with racial equity and the economic advancement of women. The more resources we have, the more we stand together and recognize the experiences we share vs what makes us different (although differences are strengths), the better and safer we will all be.
