Roar 2026 is the first-ever gathering of CASK gene disorder researchers, clinicians, and families — brought together at the Jan and Dan Duncan Neurological Research Institute at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston. For two and a half days, the people working to cure CASK and the people living with it will be in the same room, at the same table, moving toward the same future.

That room matters more than it might seem. For years, research into rare conditions has often been designed for patients, rather than with them. But families know where the real challenges live. They see the parts of a child's daily life that no researcher or clinician can access from the outside. When families help shape the questions, research gets sharper, more relevant, and more likely to lead somewhere that matters.

Roar 2026 is built to make those partnerships possible. Bringing the researcher's expertise, the clinician's insight, and the family's lived experience to the same table.

CASK gene disorder is an ultra-rare, X-linked condition affecting brain development. Fewer than 600 individuals, mostly children, are diagnosed worldwide. There are no targeted treatments. Project CASK — the world's largest patient advocacy funder of CASK gene research — has committed over $650,000 to eleven active research studies, with an additional $150,000 investment planned for 2026.
