Beyond Divide and Conquer: Leading Toward a Shared Humanity

Dr. Bryan L. Champion (DMin ‘02) will be at Louisville Seminary to deliver the lecture in person with an option for remote participants to join virtually. Registration is required whether attending in-person or online.

A very old military strategy used to win wars was referred to as “Divide and Conquer.” By separating individuals and groups, power was shifted due to the smaller groups lack of resources. In the context of present day culture, this same strategy is often deployed in order to unhinge relationships through inhumane methods that encourage exclusion, fear, lack of engagement, and conforming to the status quo.

This lecture will discuss how leaders use Emotional Intelligence to restore humanity and create a culture of “Congregational Safety” where everyone feels included, heard, and valued for their uniqueness.

About Dr. Bryan L. Champion

Dr. Bryan L. Champion (DMin '02) is a Professor of Public Sector Leadership in the Key Executive Leadership, and the Master of Public Administration and Policy programs at American University in Washington, DC. He specializes in the training and development of government leaders and executives focusing on behaviors that strengthen organizational effectiveness and success. As a seasoned presenter at Faith-based, Government, and Private sector conferences, he speaks on leadership topics including emotional intelligence, psychological safety, accountability, and developing organizational trust. Dr. Champion is also an alum of Louisville Seminary, graduating with his Doctor of Ministry degree in 2002.

The Greenhoe Lectures were established in 1966 by Memorial Presbyterian Church in Midland, Michigan, in honor of their former pastor, Dr. Theodore M. Greenhoe. Dr. Greenhoe was a member of the Louisville Seminary class of 1934. View prior lectures here.
