From Wings to Watersheds: Restoring Life Across the North Coast

The little butterfly in this photo — the Behren’s silverspot — lives only along our foggy Northern California coast. Once common, it nearly vanished when development and invasive plants took over its meadows. Today, through partnerships with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Mendocino Land Trust, and the Sequoia Park Zoo, and others Conservation Works helps give this butterfly a second chance.

When you join Hike for Habitat, you’re walking for more than butterflies. You’re walking for salmon finding their way back to the Russian River, for redwoods rising above Fort Bragg, for clean water in our creeks, and for the native plants that feed pollinators and birds.

We’re a small nonprofit doing big work — restoring polliantor and salmonid habitat, planting trees and slowing Climate Change with California Climate Action Corps Fellows, helping families install water tanks to conserve every drop, and building resilience against fire and drought.
