For 24 years, Lake Avenue Elementary School fifth graders have spent three nights in the woods, connecting with nature and one another to kick off their best year of elementary school!

Taking 60-80 elementary students to camp is no small feat. Some have never been camping, some have never been away from their parents, and after 5 years in a traditional school environment, camp is...different. Lake Ave Elementary creates a satellite school for the week. Fourth and fifth grade teachers attend camp, as do other committed teachers, staff, long-time volunteers, and family chaperones. Principal Carroll and special area teachers also come up to camp on various days, and the group welcomes Arts in Education performers throughout the week.

To ensure equitable access to this opportunity and that it remains a shared class experience, fees are limited to $25/student. Proceeds from the Garden Party will keep this program accessible, and be used to offset the cost of site rental, food, and nursing services needed to run camp and maintain this tradition in Fall 2026.
