How can nonprofits participate in Black Impact Houston's Giving Day?

1) Complete application to Join Black Impact Houston, an alliance of Black-led organizations with a mission to support and strengthen the nonprofit ecosystem.

2) Review additional requirements and submit MOU to participate in Giving Day by July 19, 2026

Eligibility Requirements

Black-led organizations with a Black Executive Director or CEO whose primary purpose is to build the political, economic, and/or social power of the Black community
IRS 501(c)(3) designation
Serves communities in the Greater Houston area

Individual Affiliates

Identifies as Black or African American
Works at or leads a nonprofit organization serving the Greater Houston area

Why It Matters

Across Houston, Black-led organizations are serving hundreds of families—with one or two staff members, or sometimes none at all.

These organizations are powerful in mission but underfunded in infrastructure—often asked to do more with less, especially in today’s shifting political and philanthropic landscape.

Since launching in 2022, Black Impact Houston (BIH) has built a network of 100+ Black-led organizations and sparked real momentum:

65% report stronger partnerships with peer orgs
Over half have been connected to new resources and funding
Many have accessed fundraising and capacity-building tools for the first time

But the work isn’t done.
Our programs are strong—but our backbones need support.

Your Gift Fuels Transformation

This year, your donation goes beyond a single org—it supports an entire ecosystem:

$5,000 → equips 3 grassroots orgs with grant-writing tools
$25,000 → supports a shared development staffer helping dozens of orgs
$100,000 → powers BIH’s new Missing Middle Fund—helping <$500K orgs cross into sustainability

Every gift on August 28 helps us reach our goal of $50,000 to fund:

30 participating Black-led nonprofits
Critical capacity-building resources
A shared strategy for lasting, Black-led impact

As local and state priorities shift, nonprofits will be leaned on more than ever to fill growing gaps in education, housing, mental health, and more. If we don’t invest in them now, we risk losing trusted organizations at the exact moment they’re needed most.

About Black Impact Houston

Black Impact Houston (BIH) is an alliance of nonprofit organizations that are led by Black people and/or that have a mission that primarily benefits Black communities. The primary focus is to support and strengthen Houston’s Black nonprofits through belonging, education, advocacy, mentorship and leadership. Through its member organizations, Black Impact Houston serves thousands of Greater Houston’s most vulnerable residents and provides a range of services and offerings, including out of school time; workforce development; community development and affordable housing; arts and culture; criminal justice reform; public health; and a host of other services critical to the empowerment and liberation of Black people. Black Impact Houston empowers its nonprofit members to become integral partners in successfully building vibrant, equitable communities.
