About 2892 Miles to Go:

There are 2892 miles across the continental United States. Each of these miles symbolizes stories of the relationship between people and land that have been mistold, misrepresented, or omitted. 2892 Miles to Go a social justice education program centered on amplifying local community stories about justice, race, and equity that are often left out of common narratives of human history. Our hope is to become the antidote to Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's eloquent definition of "The Danger of a Single Story" by holding space and elevating the stories of many. We believe that the land we live on never forgot these stories, and we want to remember - and reclaim - them together.

2892 identifies and collaborates with local educators, change-makers, and other visionaries who are passionate about community-led storytelling to journey along selected routes in their own communities and then create visually compelling digital educational resources that are rooted in collective wisdom and represent the voices and experiences of many. We collaborate with educators and local leaders to help create more informed, empathic, and united communities.

In 2022, we were able to...

Create 3 published StoryMaps and companion learning guides - Louisville, St. Paul & Route 66.
Create 4 not-yet-public StoryMaps and companion learning guides...Tulsa & Hawai'i coming 2023!
Develop an Educator Institute for 30 Louisville educators who created and implemented social justice, community storytelling projects with nearly 1500+ students. Check out their projects here.
Launch multiple education initiatives in St. Paul in partnership with the Science Museum of Minnesota, the University of Minnesota Center for GIS, and the Minnesota Historical Society impacting 100+ educators and thousands of young people.
Support the development of community education programs in Tulsa including Tulsa Black History Saturdays coming February 2023.
Support the development of community education programs in Amarillo and Hawai'i coming summer 2023.
Develop a 2892 Youth Storytelling Project coming spring 2023.
Present a 2892 Storyteller panel discussion and youth showcase in November in partnership with the University of Louisville Center for GIS and National Geographic Society.
Amplify our work through social media with the support of Stover Creative Agency.
