IL students and educators are calling for equitable, solutions based climate education that will prepare them for the challenges and opportunities of a changing world. Climate Education for IL and Seven Generations Ahead are partnering with community members to help raise funds to accelerate the process of bringing place based climate education into IL classrooms via an Illinois Climate Education Hub created by SubjectToClimate.

SubjectToClimate is a nonprofit with a free platform that houses teacher-designed lesson plans, curated resources, and professional development opportunities to enable all K-12 educators to easily integrate climate change into what they already teach. They have successfully worked with multiple states to create Customized State Hubs, adapting their core platform to facilitate place-based learning through a deep-rooted, localized approach.

An Illinois Climate Education Hub would provide resources that align with Illinois’ state teaching standards. It would also highlight locally relevant climate topics such as the career opportunities created by the IL Clean Energy Jobs Act, or solutions to the unequal distribution of air pollution in Chicago neighborhoods, leading to increased rates of asthma and other health concerns.

Our goal is to raise $25,000 to kickstart the development of this critical resource Hub for IL educators. All donations up to $25,000 will be matched by an anonymous donor, doubling the power of each dollar you contribute.
