Topic Overview

Occupational Therapy is a keen intervention for patients with Turner syndrome. This webinar will include an overview of the definition and scope of practice of occupational therapy, including how occupational therapy helps people perform important daily life activities. The webinar will also discuss the various challenges associated with Turner syndrome that occupational therapy can help with, including feeding challenges, fine motor concerns, social concerns, and executive functioning concerns.

Lastly, this webinar will encourage participants to learn more about and consider occupational therapy as a career path.

About the Presenters:

McKenna Fleming

McKenna Fleming is a doctoral student in the Occupational Therapy program at A.T. Still University, with an anticipated graduation in June 2026. During her internship with the Turner Syndrome Foundation, she conducted research focused on social skills in young adults with Turner syndrome. She is also the author of published blogs and has contributed to various health initiatives supporting the Turner syndrome community.

McKenna is passionate about the role of occupational therapy in improving the quality of life and advancing care for individuals with Turner syndrome. Her work reflects a strong commitment to research, education, and advocacy within this specialized area of practice.

Megan Edwards Collins, BS, MS, PhD
Megan Edwards Collins, PhD, OTR/L, is a Professor and Program Chair in the Department of Occupational Therapy at Winston-Salem State University. With a BS and MS in Occupational Therapy and a PhD in Education and Human Resource Studies, she brings extensive expertise in both clinical practice and higher education. Her credentials include Certified Aging in Place Specialist, Certified Fall Prevention Specialist, and Driving Rehabilitation Professional.

Drawing on her personal and professional experience, Dr. Collins offers a thoughtful perspective on how individuals navigate the physical, emotional, and mental challenges of living with injury, illness, or chronic conditions. She highlights the vital role occupational therapy practitioners play in empowering clients to live meaningful, independent lives, while also sharing insight into the rewarding and impactful nature of a career in occupational therapy.

Benjamin Gross, CScD, OTR/L
Assistant Professor, A.T. Still University
Benjamin Gross, CScD, OTR/L, is an assistant professor at A.T. Still University and Director of Clinical Integration and Operations. With more than 15 years of experience in neurorehabilitation, vocational rehabilitation, and occupational therapy education, he brings both clinical and academic expertise to his work. Dr. Gross co-directs a student-run pro bono OT/PT clinic and coordinates Level I fieldwork, supporting the next generation of practitioners.

In this session, he will provide an overview of the occupational therapy profession and guide participants through the pathways to becoming a licensed therapist. The presentation will cover educational options, degree requirements, licensure steps, and emerging trends in the field, offering practical insight for those interested in pursuing a career in occupational therapy.
