A Mural of Remembrance for WNC: Honoring Lives Affected by Hurricane Helene

In the wake of Hurricane Helene, many in Western North Carolina have experienced profound loss and ongoing challenges. To honor those we have lost and to support those still struggling, we are creating a powerful Mural of Remembrance along the beautiful Toe River.

This project involves painting three walls to create a meaningful tribute dedicated to the memory of those impacted by Helene. The mural will be painted by my husband, a talented artist and muralist, who is generously volunteering his time and skills to bring this heartfelt community project to life.

Situated by the Toe River, this mural will serve as a safe and peaceful place for reflection, remembrance, and healing. Near the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Helene, we will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony and unveiling at the NC Outdoor Adventures Vigil towards the end of September, bringing the community together in shared remembrance and strength.

We are currently fundraising to cover the cost of painting supplies needed to complete all three walls. Your support will help us bring this inspiring project to life, honoring our community’s spirit and collective journey toward healing.
