About the Project

The 30th Street Mural will transform an underutilized retaining wall into a vibrant community landmark, expanding public art into a new area of Laramie while enhancing neighborhood identity, beautification, and civic pride. Once funding is secured, the process can begin to hire an artist and seek public feedback on this project.

Project Goals

1. Strengthen Community Identity and Pride

The mural will visually celebrate the stories, history, and character of the community, reflecting LPAC’s mission to uplift local voices through public art. By transforming a blank retaining wall into a vibrant landmark, the project reinforces a shared sense of belonging and pride.

2. Activate and Beautify Public Space

This project directly supports LPAC’s commitment to enhancing the built environment through creative placemaking. The mural will convert an underutilized, visually stagnant surface into an engaging public asset that improves walkability, aesthetic appeal, and the overall experience of the space.

3. Expand Access to Public Art Across Albany County

LPAC’s mission emphasizes equitable access to art in everyday life. Installing a mural in this location increases the geographic reach of public art, ensuring residents and visitors encounter creativity outside traditional cultural venues.

4. Foster Community Engagement and Collaboration

The project will include opportunities for residents to contribute ideas, themes, or stories that inform the mural’s design. This aligns with LPAC’s value of community‑driven artmaking and strengthens relationships between artists, local stakeholders, and the broader public.

5. Support Local Artists and Creative Workforce Development

By commissioning a regional artist (or artist team), LPAC advances its mission to cultivate and sustain creative professionals in Albany County. The project provides paid artistic work, visibility, and professional development opportunities.

6. Promote Tourism and Economic Vitality

Public art contributes to a more welcoming and memorable environment for visitors. The mural will serve as a visual anchor that encourages foot traffic, supports nearby businesses, and enhances the town’s cultural identity — aligning with LPAC’s broader goal of strengthening community vitality through art.

7. Create a Durable, Long-Lasting Cultural Asset

Using high-quality materials and protective coatings, the mural will be designed for longevity. This ensures the artwork remains a valued part of the community for years, reflecting LPAC’s commitment to responsible stewardship of public art.
