The next most important thing after our dancers and choreographers? The space they will be rehearsing in. Help us book 3 hours in our rehearsal space (currently in residence at Dovetail Studios in Studio 3 at $20/hr) to be able to practice for our educational performances such as Halloween Creepy Crawlies!

You're a Dancer Advocate!

You want us to succeed in our mission to pay dancers hourly in 2026! This tier supports a dancer for two months by covering their rehearsal paycheck and helps us save to be able to transition our dancers to hourly pay in 2026 – 27. Our goal is to start with $15/hr and be able to reach $20/hr by 2030. Darvin Dances is also trying to launch a paid 6-month apprenticeship program with rehearsal and performance stipends. The aim of the apprenticeship program is to give early career artists an opportunity to be paid for their work instead of paying to work like trainee programs, mentorship, the opportunity to be promoted to a full-time company member and building their performance resume.

One of the goals of Darvin Dances is to lower the financial barriers for dance curious audience members to access performances.

ABOUT HALLOWEEN CREEPY CRAWLIES

Halloween Creepy Crawlies is a family friendly dance production that explores the mysteries of Halloween through a lost ghost’s search for her haunted home. On her way, she is helped by Ballerina Witches, Jazzy Vampires, Modern-Dancing Mummies, a Tap Dancing Skeleton and even a Jack O’ Lantern named Jake! Join us on October 25th at 2pm for this Halloween adventure!

During it's creation, this project was partially supported by an Individual Artists Program 2024 grant from the City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events. This performance has been generously subsidized through Chicago Danztheatre Ensemble’s artist's support and residency program.

This production was created by Mariah Eastman, artistic director of Darvin Dances, a Chicago based modern/contemporary dance company. Along with six professional dancers, there are two young dancers from the Chicago community participating in this production (dancers are based at Dovetail Studios and Dance on Broadway). The choreography was created by Mariah Eastman with Alicia Wilson choreographing for the young dancers. Illustrations were created by Nat Thomas (https://natthomas.work/work) with lighting design by Ruby Lowe.
