In the beginning there was no budget, no staff, no screen. There was only a belief that the voices too often silenced deserved to be heard.

The Micheaux Film Festival began with that belief and nothing more. It was built in a world where artists are told no before they are given a chance to prove themselves. A world where securing funding for a story feels impossible and finding an audience feels even harder.

Over seven years the festival has grown into a home for bold and diverse storytellers. We have held space for the dreamers who speak truth in a thousand different genres and styles. We have weathered storms, a global pandemic, two industry strikes, and the rollbacks of DEI initiatives that once opened doors for so many, and still we return.

We return because representation matters. We return because independent artists deserve more. We return because no one else is doing what we do.

Micheaux has never been about prestige for prestige’s sake. It has been about impact. It has been about creating a sanctuary where independent filmmakers, especially mulicultural voices, can be seen, celebrated, and supported. A place that does not just showcase work, but fights for the spirit of the artist behind it.

Every donation fuels that fight. It makes possible the screenings, panels, and networking events that change careers.

This is not just a festival. It is a movement powered by community, faith, and purpose. A movement that exists because people believe in the power of storytelling and in showing up for one another.
