This Giving Tuesday, Center for Coalfield Justice (CCJ) is turning our focus toward one of the most immediate and pressing needs in our communities - food security.

At an already difficult economic time, families across Greene and Washington Counties are struggling due to recent federal cuts to SNAP and LIHEAP benefits. Many of our neighbors are facing an impossible choice between putting food on the table and keeping their homes warm this winter. According to a map from the U.S. Census Bureau, over 100,000 households in Washington and Greene Counties rely on SNAP.

That’s why this year, CCJ’s Giving Tuesday campaign will raise funds to support two incredible organizations working on the frontlines of hunger relief:

🎯 Our Goal

Raise $5,000 through Dec 2nd to directly benefit these two vital food banks.

CCJ will match every dollar raised — up to $5,000!

That means your gift has double the impact in feeding families and strengthening community resilience. We will direct every dollar you give to Food Helpers and Corner Cupboard Food Bank.

CCJ values transparency - Funds raised during this campaign, along with any applicable matching funds, will be distributed equally between Food Helpers of Greater Washington County and Corner Cupboard Food Bank at the midway point of the campaign on Wednesday, November 19th, and again after the fundraiser closes on Wednesday, December 3rd. We believe this approach will help expedite support for our local food banks and the families they serve.

🤝 Who is CCJ?

CCJ is an environmental 501(c)3 non-profit serving residents of Greene and Washington counties in southwestern Pennsylvania with issues around coal extraction, fracking and other petrochemical extraction, economic justice issues, and democracy work.

Our Mission: We work to improve policy and regulations for the oversight of fossil fuel extraction and use; to educate, empower and organize coalfield residents; and to protect public and environmental health. We blend organizing, communications, legal, and policy strategies to build power with and for residents across Washington and Greene Counties, and to create an expanded set of options for achieving justice. Through this approach, and by investing in people’s skills and leadership, our communities will be able to advocate effectively for a healthy environment and thriving economy.
