Each Kitten Season is harder than the last — and with the residual impacts of Hurricane Helene on our community, this one is on track to be the worst yet. Right now, we’re facing a crisis that threatens our ability to keep saving the tiniest, sickest lives.

Here at Esther Neonatal Kitten Alliance, we’re being hit with over 25 pleas for help every single day.

Some are about healthy kittens needing homes — but many are far more urgent. Newborns abandoned and still tangled in their own placentas. Kittens whose eyes are swollen from severe infection. A tiny one with a birth defect who just needed time, love, and skilled care.

We’ve even had multiple rescue partners begging us to take in pregnant cats on the verge of giving birth in overcrowded shelters.

The heartbreaking truth? We want to say yes. But we’re running out of resources.

We’re stretched beyond what we can sustain — and we’re in danger of not being able to continue this life-saving work.

We urgently need to raise $30,000 to keep our doors open to the kittens who have nowhere else to turn.

Today, we took in three of the smallest kittens we've ever seen — and possibly three of the most fragile lives we've ever tried to save.

They arrived at a crowded county shelter with no place to go, and no chance without immediate help. These three premature babies — Buddy, Pal, and Amigo — are half the size of a full-term newborn, pink and translucent, their tiny bodies not yet covered in fur. They don’t have a suckle reflex. They can’t maintain their own body temperature. They’re so small, they barely fill the palm of your hand.

But we said yes. Because kittens like Buddy, Pal, and Amigo are exactly why Esther Neonatal Kitten Alliance exists.

Other shelters and rescues simply don’t have the resources or experience for cases like this — but we do.

Now we’re giving them everything we can.

That means:

An incubator kept at 90°F, mimicking the warmth of a mother cat
Diluted kitten formula, slowly introduced in micro amounts to avoid shocking their systems
Tube feedings every 2–3 hours, including overnight
Constant monitoring for signs of hypoglycemia, dehydration, and respiratory distress
Sterile environments, because their immune systems don’t exist yet
And the most critical ingredient: round-the-clock love and vigilance

We don’t know if they’ll make it — but we do know we’ll do everything humanly possible to give them a chance.
