Dear friends of the International Community,

On behalf of the people of Myanmar, we, at the Global Movement for Myanmar Democracy, need your assistance to help fund food, temporary, shelters, and essential items for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).

Thousands of civilians across Myanmar are forced to flee from their houses due to the attacks by the Myanmar military regime. After staging a coup d’état on February 1st, 2021, there has been countrywide resistance through creative non-violent tactics. The military has responded to the protestors using live ammunition, rubber bullets, water cannons, and brutal force to incite fear and inflict mental, emotional, and physical harm against innocent civilians. This has led to the death of hundreds, arrests of thousands, and the beating, and torturing of those in support of the resistance.

The degree of violence we see now is unprecedented. The military has been firing and even using airstrikes in Kachin, Kayah, Karen and Chin states to unarmed civilians including women and children and setting random houses on fire, shooting openly into homes and hospitals at night, and dragging people out of their homes to execute them. Everyone is living in terror, and we expect things to get worse. Due to the increasing needs of humanitarian support, we are launching this fundraiser in addition to our existing medical fundraiser that is supplying medical supplies and services.

Due to the military brutally firing and shooting, many people living in those areas had to escape to the forests. Monsoon season just started so they need temporary shelters (waterproof), blankets, warm clothes, and toilet bowls for hygiene. They had to use rain water for cooking and drinking, but they need portable water filters to generate clean water. They, especially children, need medicines to treat fever and cold due to rain, and from diarrhea. During monsoon season, Malaria is one of the most terrifying and alarming due to the increase in mosquitoes in the tropical areas. Most IDPs are struggling for food days and nights. They have to find vegetables and food in the forests. Bamboo shoots, banana trees, and flowers are something they can find in the forests if they are lucky. They need dry food with prolonged shelf life to survive in the forests.

All of the funding will go directly towards humanitarian aids for IDPs in affected areas throughout Myanmar. We will use trustworthy channels to allocate the funds and ensure intended individuals receive them. We will provide updates to donors on how the money has helped IDPs.
