In 2025 Viva started the first week of the year off by jumping into action in the LA fires, and then spent months evacuating, rescuing, and recovering every last animal in the Palisades fire zones. Since 2018, even before we officially became a nonprofit, we have responded to every wildfire throughout Southern California that needed large animal evacuation, disaster cat trapping, or animal recovery.

Since 2019, Viva Rescue has operated a year-round animal sanctuary for over 60 animals rescued from abuse, neglect, slaughter, cruelty, or wildfires. We are an organization run entirely by volunteers, with over 100 weekly volunteers who truly make us who we are. Providing a home to horses who escaped slaughter, goats who survived extreme neglect, chickens who survived cockfighting, or rescuing burned cats from wildfires is no easy task. It takes 365 days a year of hard volunteer labor, and hundreds of thousands of dollars, to do this work.

And if responding to disasters and providing forever refuge was not enough, we also distribute thousands of pounds of pet food to struggling pet owners every month, feeding over 1,000 pets this year and helping families keep their animals instead of surrendering them. Viva also hosts community events that offer a safe, welcoming, inclusive space, and this year we welcomed over 500 guests across more than 20 workshops and gatherings.
