Brian Costella, who passed away in October 2024 at age 58 after a battle with pancreatic cancer, was the keystone of the chess community in York County, Pennsylvania, and his work as a USCF Senior Tournament Director made him a familiar and respected figure at tournaments up and down the East Coast.

He was a U.S. Army veteran; a devoted husband, father, and grandfather; and founder of two chess clubs, Center Square Chess Club and York Chess Club. Shortly before his passing, Brian founded the York Chess Club as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, dedicated to promoting chess and friendship in York County and beyond.

To honor his memory and continue his mission, York Chess Club will us money raised in this campaign to fund scholastic chess programs in and around York County, Pennsylvania.
