Pregnant mommas, nursing litters and puppies under six months old.

That has been Pup Squad's focus since it's inception. Born out of the inspiration and desperation of four former BARC volunteers who had watched too many puppies sicken and even die from the illnesses that run rampant in shelter environments and had their hearts broken by too many mommas who ran out of time.

Seventeen years later, we still focus on pregnant mommas, nursing litters and young puppies, giving mommas safe places to have their pups and places for young puppies to grow big and strong, thanks to our wonderful foster community. Mommas like Dusty, who was abandoned when she was pregnant, left behind when her family moved, trying to fend for herself and care for eight puppies. Four of Dusty's puppies have been adopted and Dusty has started her heartworm treatment, on her way to a family of her own, fingers crossed.

But, things do look a little different these days. In addition to the young puppies and their mommas that joined us this year, we also have mommas like Maggie, who joined the Pup Squad family in 2022 and is still waiting to be picked. We have puppies who are growing up with us, waiting for their turn, like Tank. Plus the returns, the pups who come directly back to us, like Maddie, our newest return. Her human broke her hip and couldn't take care of her any longer. And, Bronx, abandoned in an empty house without heat weighing almost half of his current healthy weight.

We are committed to taking care of all of these pups to the best of our ability and appreciate your generosity in helping us do just that.
