SBTS’ Twist The Throttle for Trails Fundraiser is back and this year we’re giving away the perfect machine for the ultimate Lost Sierra moto-packing route: the Husqvarna FE 350s Heritage mid-size dual sport moto.

The 5 Bucks dual sport FE 350s Heritage has heritage looks and leading-edge performance, with new Brembo brakes, Brembo clutch, new swingarm and the excellent WP XACT fork and shock.

Along with the dream Husky enduro-machine, the grand-prize winner will also score $1,300 worth of Leatt riding gear: the 4.5 Enduro Pant and Jersey, Moto 3.5 Lite Gloves, 7.5 Helmet with 4.5 Goggles, 4.5 Enduro Boots and a 3.5 Pro Chest Protector. On top of that, the prize package includes a two night’s stay at the Gilded Drifter Inn in Loyalton, a $200 gift certificate to the Drifters Table—two absolute gems of the Sierra Valley—as well as a night’s stay and dinner at the Timber House brewery, distillery and lodge in Chester.

Both of these destinations can be accessed along an 800-mile route that we’ve mapped out as part of SBTS’ Connected Communities vision. The route links together existing Forest Service roads and singletrack to create an epic three-day adventure, crossing through four national forests—Lassen, Plumas, Tahoe and Humboldt-Toiyabe—starting as far south as Truckee and as far north as the border of Lassen Volcanic National Park. There are loads of campgrounds, lodges and resupply points in towns throughout the route, and options to extend the adventure by hooking up with the Backcountry Discovery Routes’ NorCal Route, or adding on a tour of Lost Sierra Fire Lookouts along the route: There are 21 in the mapped area!

Regardless of the “Choose Your Own Adventure” route you select, this progressive do-it-all bike will take you there. And you can win it! Each donation of $5 made to the fundraiser between now and December 31, gets you a chance to win this amazing prize package.

If you’re not familiar with this fundraiser, here’s how it works:

All donations you make between Tuesday November 25, 2025 and the campaign’s end on December 31, 2025, get you a chance to win this very special bike, outfitted with Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship Connected Communities graphics to show your support for SBTS’ mission to make dirt magic in the Lost Sierra.. Each $5 donation (the average cost of building one foot of trail) gets you another chance to win this awesome grand prize. If you’re already set up as a recurring donor, your regular monthly donation will automatically go toward this campaign. No purchase is required to enter, and write-in entries are accepted (see full rules below). Upon the campaign's close, SBTS will draw a winner at random. The Twist The Throttle campaign is open to U.S. residents only, and the winner must be able to pick up the bike in person at Motorcycle Performance Center in Roseville, California, and transfer the title.

More Moto Trails Coming!

Along with the existing moto-packing route above, we are currently working on several projects that would expand moto access in the Lost Sierra, and this fundraiser will directly support progress on this work. This includes the East Zone Connectivity Project, which will eventually link Truckee to Sierraville, Loyalton and Verdi and Reno, Nevada, as part of the Connected Communities vision. So far, we’ve built 10 miles of Verdi Ridge in partnership with the Tahoe National Forest, through funding from Sierra Nevada Conservancy, with another 3.5 miles planned in 2026. Another 25 miles is planned in this zone that is not yet funded, and Twist The Throttle For Trails will help offset that financial need.

The Peavine Maze Connectivity and Restoration Project, funded by the Nevada Off-Highway Vehicles Program in partnership with Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, will feature 20 miles of new motorized legal singletrack and the adoption of up to 25 miles of existing social trail off the west side of Peavine Mountain on the California/Nevada border near Verdi. SBTS contractor, Cooper Terrill of Dirt and Diesel Excavation, made headway this season building 1.5 miles of new singletrack in the Maze, and doing extensive work eliminating user-created lines and establishing more sustainable routes to rutted-out, fall-line sections of trail. The Maze will eventually link over the border into the East Zone project in California, expanding motorized access to the Lost Sierra region from Reno.

That’s in addition to other realignment projects in Downieville and the Cottonwood Connectivity project, which will include a mix of motorized and non-motorized trails in the beautiful Sierra Valley—a proposed route that our groundtruthing crew spent much of the fall flagging. Riding the existing forest roads between Loyalton and Sierraville—as well as staying at the Gilded Drifter Inn–will provide a glimpse of the larger vision and the beautiful riding to come in this picturesque valley.

With these in-progress projects and the access that already exists, including nearly all of the vast Downieville network, and the 70-mile, moto-legal Mt. Hough system in Quincy, where the trail crew just completed the new first town-to-town singletrack connection of the Connected Communities project, linking Quincy to Taylorsville off the backside of Hough, the Lost Sierra already offers some of the best motorized access in the west, and it’s only getting better.
