The Storybook Project is an ongoing early literacy initiative created by Parents as Teachers Porter County and First Things First Porter County to bring high-quality storytelling experiences, literacy materials, and family engagement opportunities to children across our community. Each year, the project highlights a nationally recognized children's author to anchor a series of literacy events, classroom activities, and family resources.

The purpose of the Storybook Project is to:

Promote joyful early literacy experiences
Strengthen family engagement in reading
Provide educators with ready-to-use literacy tools
Offer equitable access to all partner schools
Build community around shared reading experiences
Support ongoing Parents as Teachers' programming

The Storybook Project functions as a county-wide literacy bridge, connecting early childhood programs, families, educators, and community partners to a shared reading experience that lasts far beyond the event itself.

Parents as Teachers Porter County, in collaboration with First Things First Porter County, is excited to present our FIRST annual Storybook Project, a county-wide literacy initiative designed to promote joyful learning, strengthen family engagement, and support early childhood educators.

On March 10, 2026, we will welcome bestselling children's author Laura Numeroff for a special virtual interactive evening keynote events for community leaders, teachers, parents, caregivers, and early childhood professionals at the Ivy Tech Early Childhood Education Center and and also an at-home viewing link live online.
