Unity Housing of Johnson City works every day to ensure that our unhoused neighbors are met with dignity, safety, and meaningful support. Inclement Weather Overflow Sheltering

When temperatures fall to dangerous levels, our Inclement Weather Overflow Program opens additional emergency sleeping space so that no one is left outside during freezing or life-threatening conditions. Your support provides warm beds, meals, transportation, basic supplies, and staff/volunteer coverage so people can survive the winter safely.

National Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day (Annual Ceremony)

Each December, on or near the winter solstice, we join a national movement to remember the lives of neighbors who passed away while experiencing homelessness. Your support helps us create a dignified community ceremony that honors their memory, raises awareness, and calls all of us to action. 2025 marked Johnson City’s first-ever observance. We had over 200 neighbors both housed and unhoused attend and share a meal together. With your help, it will continue as a tradition rooted in love and justice.

Encampment Outreach & Support

Our outreach team meets people exactly where they are, at encampments throughout the city, providing essentials such as food, water, hygiene supplies, harm reduction materials, and compassionate connection. Outreach builds trust, reduces harm, and creates pathways to services, housing navigation, mental health care, and long-term stability.

Medical Respite (In Development)

Unity Housing is working to establish Johnson City’s first Medical Respite Program. Medical Respite is a transitional housing option for neighbors who are too medically fragile to recover on the streets but do not require hospitalization. Medical Respite prevents avoidable suffering, repeated hospitalizations, and untreated illness by offering safe housing paired with nursing support, case management, and care coordination.
