It started with one hug and a divine whisper.

Quaneisha D. Smith was an educator, pouring into her students each day, when one young girl—bright-eyed but burdened by life’s challenges—wrapped her in a hug before class. In that moment, Quaneisha felt a message so clear it would change her life: “She will go far if she has the right role models in her life.” That spark ignited a movement.

Years later, after being raised by her grandparents and guided by mentors, Girl Scout leaders, and tutors who helped her overcome personal hardships, Quaneisha felt the call to give back. She envisioned a program rooted in faith, love, and possibility—one that would uplift girls facing academic, social, emotional, or behavioral challenges and remind them that they, too, could rise.

For Girls Like Quaneisha was born from this calling. Today, the mentoring program serves girls ages 8–14 in Fuquay Varina, surrounding areas, and Durham—many of whom are navigating difficult circumstances. Through whole-group mentorship, life skill development, leadership opportunities, and sisterhood, these girls are finding their voices, building confidence, and realizing their potential.

This is more than a program. It’s a movement—a safe haven, a launching pad, and a family. But we can’t do it alone.
