“If we want children to love nature, we need to give them a chance to be in nature, to experience it firsthand. When they feel a connection to the earth, they will be more likely to protect it.” -David Sobel

As the founder and director of Northeast LA Forest School, I’ve seen firsthand the profound impact that nature-based education has on young learners. Since the founding of the Northeast LA Forest School in 2017, we’ve grown from 2 to 36 children across three preschool classes, added a long-day program, and a parent-and-me program for infants and young toddlers. We have become leaders in advocating for accessible, nature-based education in Los Angeles, and we are creating the next generation of planet protectors.

Unforeseen bureaucratic changes have led to a loss of our Onsite Storage Unit, which we have relied on for years. We now utilize a public storage space 1.3 miles from Elysian Park meaning we now incur an addition $2000 a month in labor, milage, and space rental fees. We are asking for your help so we can move forward with a focus on building infrastructure, safety, and equity through our Re-Storing Equity Capital Campaign. This campaign raises money for:

Immediate need for Infrastructure and safety:

Monthly Storage Cost: A year of rent for the private and safe location for our essential teaching tools and supplies.
- $6,000

A Van: To provide transit of essential materials from the storage facility to our campus. This van will also lessen our monthly overhead significantly by making trips to the new facility less frequent.
- Used Van- $13,000
- Retrofit and Branding- $5,000
