Story

Safe Place is raising funds to be able to make purchases for survivors that our grant funds do not allot for. We are hoping to secure some donations in addition to candle sales. For one set of 3 candles we have to charge $15 but would love for folks to pay $20 per set! Every little bit helps. Pick up is at Safe Place Mondays and Fridays between 9-3PM or request delivery to a local office for several purchases!

Safe Place serves all Windham County survivors of sexual and/or physical assault. We provide professional, trauma-centered interviews to children of all ages and adults regardless of developmental stage, disability, or other potential limitations. Each interview is at the pace of the person sharing their experience, and to their comfort. We offer victim advocacy services and support throughout the life of everyone's case. Since we are part of an 8-discipline team (police, DCF, states attorney, mental health, medical treatment, etc.) we work seamlessly together to ensure each victim/caregiver is supported and understands each step of their process.

Although we apply for and receive a few grants annually, these cover necessities. These grants do not allow us to pay for everything our center nor our survivors need. We like everyone to feel comfortable and offer tea, coffee and fresh water. We always have snacks on hand. We constantly replace fidgets. We provide meals for our team for team meetings. We buy pizza and drinks for our therapy group for kids. We upgrade furniture and equipment as needed, as well as decor, to make our center as warm and welcoming as possible. New coloring books and crayons, journals for folks to take home. Books to learn about boundaries and safe bodies. Grants cover a lot of these costs, but sometimes unexpected costs arise that are not in that years budget and we need to lean on our unrestricted funds, secured from generous people in our community and nation wide. We are endlessly thankful for all that we receive and all that we are able to do for our community.
