At Chicago Volunteer Doulas (CVD), we know that compassionate birth and reproductive care saves lives. CVDoulas are trained professionals who work on the frontlines of the fight for birth and reproductive justice, ensuring families receive the vital support they need — but our Doulas can’t continue this work without sustainable pay.

Many people believe our doulas are volunteers, but that’s no longer true. CVDoulas are PAID doulas. In fact, we pay our doulas more than the state of Illinois offers for these services.

In addition to paying our doulas, we offer a free 9-week certification training program that equips them with the skills needed to support families with labor, postpartum, and lactation care through DONA International.

Doulas in Illinois are facing serious challenges. Birth and reproductive health disparities are dangerously high in both Chicago and Central Illinois, and without fair pay, we risk losing these dedicated professionals when families need them most.
