We are thrilled to announce our partnership with Masjid Omar Almoktar to expand our 24/7 community fridge and pantry program to Old West Tampa!

Together, we’re building a space where mutual aid thrives, food waste is reduced, and everyone has access to fresh, nourishing food.

Why This Matters:

In Tampa Bay, 1 in 7 people struggle with food insecurity, and nearly 20% of residents face the daily challenge of not knowing where their next meal will come from. Homelessness compounds this issue, with over 1,500 individuals in Hillsborough County experiencing homelessness.

Meanwhile, the U.S. wastes over 40% of its food, even as families in our neighborhoods go hungry. Our food system is broken, and the disparities disproportionately affect marginalized communities.

This is food apartheid—a systemic lack of access to healthy, affordable food—and it’s time to fight back.

Accessible 24/7: Flexible for everyone’s schedule, no paperwork required.
Serving Underserved Communities: Located where grocery stores are scarce, making food walkable and accessible.
Fighting Food Apartheid: Providing healthy and cultural options in neighborhoods that have been deliberately deprived of them.
Supporting Our Unhoused Neighbors: Offering meals and other essentials to our most vulnerable community.
Reducing Food Waste: Rescuing perfectly good food and redistributing it to the community.
Promoting Food Sovereignty: Empowering communities to take control of their food systems and build collective care.

Who We Are:

At Neighborhood Fridge, our mission is to combat food insecurity and waste in underserved communities in the state of Florida. Guided by mutual aid and collective care, we provide free access to nutritious, fresh food and other essentials for everyone, regardless of race, gender, and socioeconomic status. We believe that food is a human right, and by working together, we can build stronger, more resilient communities.

Since our launch two years ago, we’ve grown to operate four active programs in Central Florida. We’ve partnered with incredible organizations, rescued thousands of pounds of food from going to waste, and connected with countless volunteers who share our vision of a just food system. Now, we’re ready to bring this movement to Tampa.

Our Goal:

We’re raising $2,000 to launch a new community fridge and pantry in Tampa. Your contributions will help us:

Purchase and install two fridges
Buy materials to build a pantry setup around them
Buy paint and supplies to paint the structure
Stock it with food and hygiene products
Provide supplies for cleaning and maintenance
Support food rescue efforts to keep the fridge full
