We at Whittier for Social Justice (W4SJ) (W4) have created this fundraiser seeking financial support from the community to assist our efforts to immediately and directly provide food, drinks, and hygiene supplies, along with direct material aid for people in Whittier and the surrounding areas experiencing homelessness. Through these donations, we will purchase and distribute items at monthly pop ups such as food and drinks, along with health and hygiene items as requested by the community. Additionally, we will support individuals in our community with basic needs supplies like tents, sleeping bags, clothes, shoes, blankets, care packages etc. It has been extremely difficult -- truly, impossible -- to meet the need for these items :(

Housing is a human right. Los Angeles County and the City of Whittier governments fail their unhoused residents in this respect. We are committed to supporting the longer fight for free and accessible housing for all. We understand the importance of including voices and leadership from people experiencing houselessness in these projects and it's our focus to maintain mutual cooperation and conversation with the community.

From these conversations, we have learned that there are many immediate needs from people experiencing houselessness in our communities that are not being met. As a result, we have started this fundraiser to immediately and directly provide material support and aid for unhoused people in Whittier and the surrounding areas. Through these donations, we will purchase and distribute items such as food and drinks, health and hygiene items, tents, sleeping bags, clothes, shoes, blankets, care packages, etc.

This is a anarcho-communist form of mutual aid informed by the traditions of poor, Black , Indigenous, and other communities of color meant to redistribute resources from more privileged sectors of the community to those that are extremely marginalized.

We condemn the City of Whittier and Los Angeles County for their governments' continued legacy of inhumane treatment of its residents, as we emphasize the importance of building community autonomy and power outside of the government.
