We spend funds as we receive them on food, supplies, and other support for our neighbors who are living in shelters, on the streets, and in their cars. We expend our funds monthly to maximize support for our community and we have no savings.

There is so much need, and so we ask you to consider signing up to donate monthly to support our ongoing work -- any amount helps!!

WHAT IS W4SJ?

Since 2020, Whittier For Social Justice (W4SJ, W4) has fostered mutual aid in support of our marginalized neighbors in the Whittier area.

This is an anarcho-communist form of mutual aid informed by the traditions of poor, Black , Indigenous, and other communities of color meant to redistribute resources from more privileged sectors of the community to those that are extremely marginalized.

WHY DO WE NEED YOUR MONTHLY DONATIONS?

We hold a monthly pop up at a local park where we provide food, drinks, and hygiene supplies, along with other forms of direct material aid for people experiencing poverty and homelessness.

Through your donations, we are able to purchase items like body wipes, socks, and other hygiene items that are so frequently requested by homeless members of our community.

It has been extremely difficult -- truly, impossible -- to meet the need for these items :(

WHY SHOULD YOU SUPPORT?

Housing is a human right. Los Angeles County and the City of Whittier governments fail their unhoused residents in this respect. We are committed to supporting the longer fight for free and accessible housing for all.

We understand the importance of including voices and leadership from people experiencing houselessness in these projects; about half of the active members of our group are currently or were recently homeless.

We condemn the City of Whittier and Los Angeles County for their governments' continued legacy of inhumane treatment of its residents, as we emphasize the importance of building community autonomy and power outside of the government.
