Personal Genetics Education & Dialogue (PGED), a program based at Harvard Medical School, creates free resources for educators and communities to share and learn about genetics advances and their applications- from gene-editing, to ancestry testing, to personalized medicine, to uses in criminal justice. Join us for an interactive program to learn, share, and reflect together about genetics advances, and about how to bring conversations about ethical, legal and social dimensions of genetics into classrooms and informal science learning. Dr. Rob O’Malley (he/him) is Strategic Engagement Lead for PGED. He is biological anthropologist who shifted from a career studying wild chimpanzees to one focused on public engagement with science, with expertise in evidence-based public engagement approaches. He has a particular interest in how history, culture, and worldview (including faith and spirituality) inform peoples’ perspectives on genetics and related sciences. He has been a scientist participant and supporter of Skype-A-Scientist since 2017, and previously hosted a SaS webinar on science engagement with faith communities.
