Our Growth - Work You Make Possible

Over the past three years—with financial support from generous donors like you—our team has helped to secure labor-based deferred action for 20 immigrant workers who survived a deadly nitrogen leak; lead a national administrative advocacy effort to persuade OSHA to become a U/T visa certifying agency; and educated thousands of workers, organizers, advocates, and students on labor and immigrant rights through bilingual popular educational materials, virtual webinars, presentations, and TikToks.

This year alone, we:

Provided close to 20 Know-Your-Rights trainings in English and Spanish to worker communities, organizers, law students, and other grassroots organizations, with over 700 attendees.
Reached thousands of workers, and shared over 100 bilingual popular education materials to educate about rights within the workplace.
Began developing an innovative clinic model within Georgia to bring together workers, worker centers, unions, and legal services nonprofits to put legal tools directly in the hands of the people. We will pilot our new program by hosting our first clinic workshop in January of 2024!

In a state notorious for its anti-worker and anti-immigrant policies, your support is vital. Sur Legal continues to work to provide popular education, training, technical assistance, and direct representation to people marginalized at the intersection of systems of labor, immigration, and mass incarceration.

Our Goal - Looking to 2024

Your support is instrumental in catalyzing our growth as an organization. Reaching our year-end goal of $35,000 dollars will help us to:

Provide no-cost direct representation for immigrant workers to secure labor-based immigration relief. These include deferred action and work permit applications—essential methods for providing relief and opportunity for marginalized, immigrant laborers.
Develop and disseminate in-language legal education resources that provide an overview of important legal concepts, responsibilities, and rights for immigrant, BIPOC, and working-class communities in ways that are culturally relevant and accessible.
Support the incredible people that are doing this essential work, by enabling Sur Legal to support our staff and mitigate burnout by building our team. Specifically, Sur Legal is in the process of building capacity for our Communications Team, as we seek to scale up our Popular Education program and expand our outreach.
