Say Hello to Sichimwa Primary School

Located 1 hour from metropolitan Livingstone (city in Zambia), Zimba is a rural community bursting with enthusiasm and excitement for learning. The people who live in this area are from the Tonga and Lozi ethnic tribes. While they hold on to their culture, they also aim to adapt to modern life through education, so the younger generation can have a positive and productive future.

In an effort to educate their community, about 20 years ago a group of mothers led by Anik Lubinda, gathered to learn to read and write. They then advocated to build a school for the children living in the village areas of Zimba. Since then the community has embraced education and the children have a great desire to learn. They are also aiming to support the wellbeing of students through community collaboration and nurturing curious, courageous and kind character. Today they have over 500 children attending the school!

In 2024 individuals and families donated their time, talent and treasure and we raised over $25K which helped to build additional classrooms, purchase 3 laptops, teaching supplies, cabinets, and white boards, and maintain communication with the team on the grounds in Zimba. We also partnered with Empowered by Light who helped to provide solar power to Sichimwa Primary school!

Our goal for 2025 is to raise $20K to be utilized between 2026-2027 to:

-Drill a bore hole closer to the teachers living quarters so they can access water easier

-Build an open covered structure for students and community members to gather during the meal time and to learn. There is only 1 tree which provides shade on the school grounds and it gets painfully hot in the summers

-Provide solar power to the open covered structure and teachers living quarters

-Provide lunch to students on school days

-Increase the number of laptops, tablets and phones needed to learn and communicate with Kindness Ambassadors in the USA

Our goal is to serve this inspiring and humble community by partnering with Nekacheya Initiative and Nekacheya Primary School in Livingstone, Nekacheya is a Tonga word that means "although small" - the founders of the organization and school have vast experience in both youth empowerment and literacy education. We aim to partner with them all the efforts listed above. We also aim to assist in providing cross-cultural learning virtually with our Kindness Ambassadors program in the USA.
