Join us at GG & POP Institute in Harlem for a special evening with acclaimed Haitian-American artist Guy Stanley Philoche, Matthais Merkel Hess and emerging talent Gino Romero.

Celebrate the power of art, storytelling, and community as Philoche shares insights into is artistic practice, The Philoche Collection—his personal, ever-evolving archive of work by emerging and established artists. Known for his bold aesthetic and commitment to uplifting fellow creatives, Philoche has spent years building a collection that reflects his journey and belief in art as a force for change.

Merkel Hess will also invite us into his private studio and process around his stoneware works that examine the everyday American experience. He recreates plastic vessels in clay, such as milk crates and buckets, using these forms to examine themes of consumerism, environmentalism, and the American Dream.

Artist, Gino Romero, will guide you through his solo exhibition in the GG & POP Institute gallery The House Our Hands Built is a primarily paper and light based installation, recreating Romero’s familial home in Venezuela from memory. Mirroring the nature of memory, this installation will be fragmented, flowing through text, images, and gaps in order to bring Romero’s memory (and lack thereof) into an experiential space. The installation will take cues from book arts in both form and methodologies, using the traditional materials along with time-based elements to create an immersive “book”. The installation will use light to hide and reveal parts of the memories embedded in the large paper works
