GiveSolar and Habitat for Humanity Affiliate Support Organization Alliance have partnered to make solar energy affordable to low-income households across the United States. Together, we are addressing three urgent challenges: (1) access to solar energy for low-income households, (2) economic insecurity caused by energy burden, and (3) the widespread transition to low-carbon energy sources necessary to address climate change.

Within this framework, GiveSolar developed a statewide solar deployment model in partnership with Habitat Virginia which led to GiveSolar partnering with 9 other states to successfully crowdfund $1M in start-up funding. (completed Aug ’24)

We now seek to raise $24 million to plan, develop, and deploy solar power across 24 participating states and to leverage the federal funding that is imminent from the “Solar for All” program. We want to install solar on thousands of Habitat homes! Participating states include: AL, CA, CO, Fl, GA, HI, IL, IA, ID, KS, KY, MI, MN, NM, NC, OH, OR, PA, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA, and WI.

But we can’t do this without major support from mission-aligned donors. What is the bold mission of this effort? To normalize the installation of solar systems on Habitat homes across the country over the next five years.

Funding request:

Federal funds from “Solar for All” will typically not cover the total cost of deploying solar on all suitable Habitat homes. Additional funding from individuals, corporations and foundations is necessary to bridge the funding gap and deploy statewide solar programs. We've had some big wins through early grassroots crowdfunding and have achieved our Phase 1 goal of $1 million. Now, it’s time for Phase 2!

We are seeking legacy donors who wish to make a transformative impact on the lives of thousands of hard-working low-income families. Solar on Habitat homes is a disruptive solution that helps to upend cycles of poverty, untenable energy burdens, and lack of access to generational wealth.
