Founded in 2016 by Dr. Tamesha Hughes-Frazier, Hughes Elite Scholars Inc. is a Charlotte-based nonprofit dedicated to empowering first-generation and low-income high school students through comprehensive academic and personal development programs. In 2018, the organization secured full funding through the federal TRIO Upward Bound Program, enabling it to expand its reach across Mecklenburg County and surrounding rural areas .

Since its inception, Hughes Elite Scholars has served over 1200 students, providing year-round academic support, mentorship, college and career readiness, and personal development opportunities .
