From Dreams to Destiny: The Power of Possibility in Dance

Behind every grand jeté and every pirouette lies a story of courage — of a young person daring to dream beyond circumstance. Two such stories — those of Misty Copeland and India Bradley — continue to remind us why the arts matter, and why your support transforms lives.

Misty Copeland: Rising Against All Odds

Discovered at 13 while living in a motel with her family, Misty Copeland was told she didn’t have the “right body” for ballet. Yet she refused to let anyone else define her potential. Through strength, resilience, and grace, she rewrote history — becoming the first Black female principal dancer at American Ballet Theatre (ABT).

Her story isn’t just one of talent — it’s one of perseverance, belonging, and the courage to take up space where others said she couldn’t.

India Bradley: A New Chapter in Ballet’s Story

As a young dancer from Detroit, India Bradley looked up to Misty and saw more than a ballerina — she saw a possibility. Guided by that spark, India trained with passion and purpose. And now, she’s made history herself — as the first Black female principal dancer at New York City Ballet (NYCB).

From student to star, her journey represents a generation of artists who are redefining what it means to belong in ballet.

They began just like your kids — uncertain, imperfect, but full of potential.

That same spark lives in the children we serve across Metropolitan Detroit — young dreamers who just need a stage, a chance, and someone who believes in them.
