Abebe is a Nigerian trans woman, activist, and mother. A central figure in her community, Abebe is a true trans revolutionary. Having faced state, gendered, and sexual violence throughout her life, Abebe is a fierce advocate for her community, particularly LGBTQ youth.

Abebe provides for her community in a myriad of ways. As a house mother, she takes care of 7 trans and gender non-conforming young people facing family estrangement and systemic violence, providing food, medical aid, and deep motherly love.

A former survival sex worker, Abebe has experienced sexual and physical violence while attempting to provide survival resources for herself and her kids. As she recovers from a brutal attack that took place in May 2023, forcing her to be hospitalized and relocate her family for safety, she is calling on the international LGBTQ community for support.

As the sole provider for her family, Abebe’s expenses come out to $28k / year or $2.3k / month. The expenses are broken down into: $5K a year for rent, $800 a month for groceries, and $400 a month for health and medical expenses.

As the month of May comes to an end, Abebe and her family are in urgent need of support raising their rent of $5k. With just two weeks left in the month, the family have received two evicition noticies and this past friday, a home visit from the police at which they threatened forced removal. With laws criminalizing queer and trans identity, Nigeria is not a safe place for people such as Abebe and her family, leaving them in constant fear of displacment and the harrasment that will undoubtably follow. Now more than ever, Abebe and her family need our support to stay housed and protected from further violence.
