I was first impacted by the YMCA in 1983 as a teenager being raised by a single mom in a rural community in Eastern NC. I took lifeguard training at the downtown Y in Raleigh. My first job with the Y was as a summer camp counselor at Camp Sea Gull in 1986. Camp and the Y gave an impressionable young man an opportunity to uncover his self worth providing the confidence and tools securing a 38 year career of serving others as a YMCA employee. The Y provided me with a life changing experience not only as a teenager but also each day I'm blessed to serve as a team member serving others.
