The purpose of the Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors (AFA) is to provide exceptional experiences, a vibrant community, and essential resources for the success of fraternity/sorority advisors. Accordingly, the purpose of the AFA Foundation is to support AFA, its individual members, and our wider fraternal communities in their fraternal work.

It is within our purposes we find our drive to navigate these uncertain times. The AFA Foundation staff and volunteers understand that the future is unknown, yet our commitment to emerging as a stronger association is steadfast. However, we cannot think about the future alone, and we implore our members, colleagues, and peers to join us in this journey.

We invite you to join us for the AFA Foundation Day of Giving, set for Tuesday, June 8. Our Day of Giving is a collective way to approach opportunities and innovations with optimism and flexibility.

To set AFA up for long-term success, we are focusing on the fact the future remains uncertain, so we must plan for new challenges and hurdles which will impact our work and the industry. This is a time to come together to consider the financial health of the association, as we must plan for unforeseen variables to become critical factors in the association’s operations and member resources.

The biggest need for the AFA Foundation is access to unrestricted funds. These funds allow us to respond faster, act with agility, mobilize innovative approaches, and utilize resources to act on opportunities at a moment’s notice. Through your unrestricted dollars, the AFA Foundation can be responsive to the needs of the membership by offering new programming, educational opportunities, and resources. These dollars also allow us to continue to push forward initiatives that put access and equity at the forefront.

What is the AFA Foundation Day of Giving?

The AFA Foundation Day of Giving is an annual social media-based, online giving, 24-hour fundraising event taking place Wednesday, June 8, 2022. This is the 5th year the AFA Foundation has hosted the event.

How has the AFA Foundation prepared for the Day of Giving?

Over the past few months, the AFA Foundation has thought deliberately about how to best serve the association through securing, investing, and distributing the necessary resources to further the fraternity/sorority advising profession. At the core of all of this has been our members and colleagues.

Has anything changed from the prior Day of Giving events?

Yes! This year, the AFA Foundation Day of Giving is using a new donation portal hosted on the Givebutter platform. This site will allow donors to see in real-time the outcomes of the Day of Giving. Givebutter does use tips and fees in their credit card processing, and below are a few notes on those:

What are tips? - Tips are an easy way for people to support Givebutter’s free and transparent business model. The tip amount defaults to $2, but please feel free to change that to zero.
What are the fees? - There are two types of transaction fees on Givebutter: platform fees and processing fees. Platform fees goes to Givebutter to pay for costs like website hosting and support. Processing fees goes to credit card and payment processing companies like Visa and American Express.

Is there a suggested financial donation amount?

To celebrate our rich history, the AFA Foundation created a $19.76 minimum gift amount for the Day of Giving. But, all gifts are welcome! Also, donors can text AFAF2022 to (202) 858-1233, and they will receive a link to donate instantly via text. The Givebutter site is fully integrated with Venmo, PayPal, Apple Pay, and Google Pay.

Can I honor or celebrate someone with my donation?

Yes! There is a custom field on the donation form where you can indicate who the donation honors or celebrates.

How do I share I’ve donated?

First, you can get the official Day of Giving Facebook frame. Next, you can share the Day of Giving page from the Givebutter platform and use the hashtag #AFAGIVES on Tuesday, June 8.
