Hi, I’m Kia Jones, and I’m proud to be part of the  Hands On Atlanta 2025 Civic Leadership Program, which empowers leaders to address food security, educational equity, and environmental sustainability across our communities.

For the past few years, I’ve managed a community garden in Atlanta, creating opportunities for neighbors to connect with nature while learning about sustainable practices. As a preschool teacher and mother to my 5-year-old son, I’m passionate about fostering education and healthy living for future generations.

One of the most impactful projects I’m working on is the transformation of a food forest at a site that was once an abandoned gas station leaking harmful chemicals into the soil and waterways. Thanks to the efforts of East Decatur Greenway, the land was remediated and now serves as a flourishing greenspace that benefits local communities.

Through my partnership with the Wylde Center and East Decatur Greenway, I’ve organized service days focused on maintaining this food forest, promoting sustainability, and creating equitable access to fresh, healthy produce. This project exemplifies Hands On Atlanta’s mission to mobilize communities and tackle critical challenges through volunteerism and leadership.

My goal is to raise at least $500 to support Hands on Atlanta mission. Your support will help Hands On Atlanta address Atlanta’s most pressing needs by partnering with over 150 nonprofits and schools and engaging in efforts to combat food insecurity, promote sustainability, and foster educational equity. Together, we can transform spaces, empower communities, and build a brighter, more sustainable future.
